Chat Room Technical Help
The epilepsy.com Chat Room is a Java-based applet. It is possible that some users' settings will conflict with the Chat Room settings and prevent those users from being able to enter the Chat Room. If you are having trouble accessing this feature, the off-site links below should help resolve your problems.
- Resolving Windows Vista Chat Loading Issue
- Unable to login using the AOL web browser
- If all fails, try using Firefox. Most users manage to log in after switching browser.
- Safari users: opening tabs or new windows while connected to the chat will disconnect you. We recommend using Firefox.
Click here for a list of the most common issues and fixes for the chat application, including:
- "load: class Client not found" error
- Blank gray box when loading applet
- "Bad Magic Number" error when loading Java applet
- A message appears requiring a software install when I try to load the chat room.

General Tips:
If you have problems with the chat application, the first thing you should do is upgrade your Java Applet Software to the latest version. To do this, visit these links, and follow the instructions:
- Test to see if Java is enabled: http://www.javatester.org/enabled.html
- Test to see what version of Java you are using: http://www.javatester.org/version.html
- Install the Java Software: http://www.javatester.org/installing.html
- Configure your browser to accept Java Applet requests: http://www.javatester.org/configuring.html
For all other problems, send us a bug note and include a description of your computer's operating sytem (ie, Windows XP or Mac OS X) and your browser (ie, Netscape v4.6). webmaster@epilepsytdp.org
